Weather and Seasonal Advice
The weather in Pigeon Forge tends to fluctuate quite a bit. One day it might be in the 60s and the evening could get as low as 30 degrees. The weather is so inconsistent that you might experience multiple seasons in a matter of a week. Fall and spring tend to fluctuate the most. Temperatures can be very different depending on the elevation. Although a decent amount of snow is expected during the winter months, a blizzard is not. Come and see for yourself!
Fall: This is easily one of the most visited times of the year. For the most part September is still decently warm and a lot less crowded after the summer rush slows. Most of the attractions are still open so this is a great time to enjoy some of what Pigeon Forge has to offer. Nature starts to paint a brilliant picture around October that you won’t want to miss out on. The colors are usually at their peak by the third week of October, and by mid November there is a slight chance of some light snow in some of the higher elevations, such as Mt. Leconte.
Winter: Since Pigeon Forge is placed in a valley there is a possibility of snow from December to February. The higher elevations might see a lot of snow. During this time the average high is in the 50s while the average lows hover in the 20s. Of course, these tend to be lower in the higher elevations.
Spring: Pigeon Forge in March still calls for a jacket at night although there is a good chance you will be able to wear shorts during the day. The Smoky Mountain trees are starting to sprout green, which is exciting because most people are ready for a change away from cold, windy nights. The highs for the spring months are in the 60s, but this usually doesn’t occur until April and May. The average low for these months is in the 30s; however, it usually doesn’t drop into the 30′s in April.
Summer: The summer months (June, July and August) tend to be very hot with high humidity. For the most part, July and August are the hottest. The average highs are in the 80s and the average lows are in the 70s. Pigeon Forge is at it’s busiest and attractions are plentiful. There are so many outdoor activities, such as hiking trails on the mountains, horseback ride, bird watch, fish, whitewater raft and so much more. You would have to spend several weeks in order to hit them all.
Every season brings new things to do and experience. Picking a season can be hard since they’re all so enticing, but consider that the hardest part and the rest of your planning will be a breeze.
