Pigeon Forge is a great place for all types! Whether you are with friends, that special someone, celebrating an anniversary with your spouse, spending quality time with the kids, or getting the entire extended family together; there is something for everyone. But if you are looking for one place in particular that can be enjoyed by all, you must visit Dollywood! The following includes a small sampling of the exciting rides and attractions you will find while visiting Dollywood in Pigeon Forge:

Rides – Dollywood in Pigeon Forge is full of rides. There is Granny’s Garden and The Pig Pen for the little ones. This area features a pop-jet fountain to play in as well as several structures for climbing, sliding, and playing. For those that tend to get overheated while having fun, there is Blazing Fury! An 1880’s town is just minutes away from being engulfed in a roaring blaze. Those brave enough to fight the flames will ride an indoor roller coaster through the town saving it by splashing the town with enough water to douse the flames. If that isn’t exciting enough try Dare Devil Falls! This boat ride will take you over a 60 foot waterfall at 60 miles an hour! If you think keeping your lunch down should be a challenge, try the Scrambler! This ride spins its riders in every direction! Along with the Scrambler, the Wonder Wheel will bring back memories of the old town fair and will allow riders a chances to slow down and take in a bird’s eye view of the park.

Hands-on-History – Visit Calico Falls Schoolhouse to experience an 1890’s one-room schoolhouse replica. Visitors can see the chalk and slate the students would have used, a wood stove used to warm the pupils, and the desks the students of East Tennessee would have sat in inside this nineteenth century classroom. Ride the Dollywood Express and experience a vital form of the past’s transportation. This authentic 110-ton coal-fired steam engine takes you on a five mile mountain excursion through the hills of the Smoky Mountains in Pigeon Forge. The early settlers of Pigeon Forge relied on this sort of transportation to get in and out of their mountain home. For a look into Dolly’s upbringing, visit the Smoky Mountain Home. This two-room house is a replica of the home she grew up in as a child in Locust Ridge.

Museums – Dolly decided to share her awards, costumes, and artifacts with her Dollywood visitors in her Chasing Rainbows museum. This interactive museum allows you to peruse the journey Dolly’s life and career have taken her on. Try on one of her wigs and see how it fits. Take the stage with Dolly and her famous duet partner Porter Wagoner. You’ve seen Dolly’s humble childhood home, now visit the bus that served as her home on wheels that took her all across America! Set your eyes on the luxurious leather imported from Germany and the beautiful cherry cabinets. You will also see three bunks, two bathrooms and shower this spectacular bus boasts. Don’t forget to visit the Southern Gospel Museum and Hall of Fame! Here you will learn about the pioneers, who took Gospel music around the world! Tour their buses and learn where this genre of music got its start.

This is such a small sampling of the rides and attractions Dollywood has to offer. To get a more thorough list visit www.dollywood.com/rides.aspx or better yet, go visit!

Adventure is sure to be found inside of Dollywood at their Adventure Mountain! This is a new attraction in Pigeon Forge (it only opened last year). It offers much fun and excitement! This is a family friendly activity; children fewer than 48 inches are to be accompanied by someone sixteen years of age or older.

You will choose the course and its level of difficulty as well as its degree of thrill as you venture along the courses at Adventure Mountain. There are endless combinations of high-energy feats to entertain the whole family. Adventure Mountain covers 2-acres of land. There are not two or three cookie-cutter courses to choose from as seen on many ropes courses: Adventure Mountain has several courses that require varying levels of skill and agility with over 100 obstacles!

Here are a few of the courses and a brief description of each:

Geyser Gorge: This course involves crossing geyser spotted terrain. Face your fears and this course is sure to encourage you to press onward and overcome the challenges in front of you. This is a great way to warm up for the more advanced courses!

Black Bear Cliff: If you love the tingling feeling you get in your toes when you stand on the very edge of a large precipice, this is the course for you! This course consists of a rocky ledge that must be braved in order to reach the other side and obtain your victory!

Rocky Top Trail: A great prize awaits all those who are brave enough to face the daunting Rocky Top Trail. Thin aerial rope bridges that shake as you walk will take you along their winding trail at nearly 90 feet above the ground below. But stick with it, and the breath taking view you will experience at the end of your efforts will prove a worthy prize.

The length of these courses range from 15 minutes to one hour, and vary according to your speed. Each of the four courses offer paths which determine the level of challenge and length of your journey. Heights along the course range from just inches above the ground to more than 26 feet high in the air! Thrill seekers that come to Adventure Mountain will traverse swinging beams, suspension bridges, flying islands, thin ropes, narrow ledges, and a tire traverse.

Be sure to stop by Adventure Mountain and have your breath taken away and get your adrenaline pumping before you leave Pigeon Forge!

In the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains you will find a little town called Pigeon Forge. In Pigeon Forge is an amazing place where one can still witness the traditions of old. This place is Dollywood. Dollywood features master craftsmen and artisans that continue the old tradition of hand-making their wares. You can witness these amazing skills in action at daily demonstrations inside Dollywood. A few of the demonstrations you could witness while in Dollywood are:

Blacksmithing: The original settlers of the Pigeon Forge area relied heavily on the skills of the local ironsmith not just for decorative pieces but for many of life’s necessities. The Pigeon Forge locals no longer rely on these master craftsmen for daily essentials, but these blacksmiths use the skills that the blacksmiths of a time long gone used to create works of art.

Wood Carving: Dollywood’s master wood carver is Lee Warren. Mr. Warren has been carving delicate designs into his figures for 25 years. Not only does Lee demonstrate this rare skill at Dollywood, he is also a teacher of the craft and a historian. He has studied old-world carving techniques in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and brings what he has learned back to Dollywood to demonstrate for you his methods, which are only slightly different from techniques used in the foothills of Tennessee more than 200 years ago.

Glass Blowing: Dollywood’s Joe Deanda has been glass blowing for visitors for more than 20 years. He uses only his breath and a few simple tools to create breath taking forms from the clumps of liquid glass in his furnace. His works include pitchers, vases, lamps, ornaments, and more. The techniques and tools Mr. Deanda relies on are the same as those used by the Romans more than two thousand years ago.

Grist Mill: The Grist Mill that you will see at Dollywood was built in 1982, and was the first fully operating grist mill in the state of Tennessee in over 100 years. Today the seducing aromas of Dollywood’s famous cinnamon bread wafts from the mill. Once inside you will find a variety of gourmet mixes, cookbooks and kitchen decorations. You can also purchase the stone-ground meal you watch be prepared!

Handmade Wagons: There was a time when wagons were as common as the car of today. Most every family had one. This is an art that has slowly died away. One of the country’s few remaining working wagon shops is Valley Carriage Works and they make their home in Pigeon Forge at Dollywood. They handcraft spring wagons, chuck wagons, buckboard wagons, wagon carts, specialty carriages and so much more. All of their wagons are available for purchase at Dollywood and they even accept custom orders!

….and there are so many more skills on display at Dollywood. You are sure to bag a few of these treasures to display in your own home as a fond memory of your visit to Dollywood and as a reminder of a more simple life of long ago lived by the settlers of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

Want to fish in Pigeon Forge for largemouth or smallmouth Bass, Crappie, or maybe even Flyfish? Then you should consider planning a day with Smokies Angling Adventures. All of their fishing trips are guided by United States Coast Guard certified guides. They offer half day and whole day trips on either a pontoon or bass boat, and your whole family is welcome (children must be accompanied by an adult). Make sure you bring your camera to capture shots of the scenery as well as any fish you may catch. You’ll want proof if you catch that monster fish.

Smokies Angling Adventures also have pontoon and bass boat fishing. Bass boats go out 362 days out of the year (unless weather is deemed unsafe). The bass boats are driven and guided by US Coast Guard licensed professionals. The types of trips include Trophy Smallmouth fishing, Sauger and Walleye fishing, and Striped Bass or Rock fish fishing; however, each trip runs during different months so visit their website at http://www.smokiesangling.com for more information. Prices range from $175 to $300 depending on how many people you have and how long you plan on fishing. All fish over two pounds are catch and release only unless you are trophy bass fishing. The Pontoon boat fishing trips allow you to fish for bluegills, bass, and crappie. Prices for the Pontoon trips range from $225 to $350 and are once again based on how many people are on the trip and how long you plan to fish.

If you prefer to fish from the bank or by wading into the water, they offer fly- and spin fishing trips as well. They have plenty of packages to choose from to fit your needs starting at $150 to $320. The guides make sure your trip is as enjoyable and productive as possible. They welcome fishermen of all levels of experience.

So the next time you’re on vacation in Pigeon Forge make sure you stop by the Smokies Angling Adventures. They do require that you take care of your own license permit, but other than that they’ve got you covered! Grab any supplies you wish to bring and a buddy if you want and go on a fishing adventure in Pigeon Forge, TN.

Wineries aren’t the first places you think you’ll visit when you come to the Great Smoky Mountains; however, if you feel like bringing out your inner wine connoisseur, this area has you covered. Pigeon Forge is nestled right on the Rocky Top Wine Trail, which allows visitors to visit 3 wineries within 3 miles of one another!

Coming from Pigeon Forge, Mountain Valley Winery will be your first stop. This winery is the largest winery in Tennessee and is located in Pigeon Forge. They have a wide selection of grape wines to taste including several award winning wines. Their grapes come from local grape vineyards as well. If you like dry wines, then try their Cascade White or Merlot. If you prefer semi-sweet wines then try the Mountain Valley White and Blush. They also have Dessert Wines like Mountain Valley Red and Blackberry Wine. They are open Sunday through Thursday from 9:00 AM until 7:00 PM and Friday through Saturday from 9:00 AM until 8:00 PM.

Your next stop will be the Apple Barn Winery in the Apple Barn Village in Sevierville. Adding apple cider to many of their sweet wines, this winery uses its own apples from the orchard planted in 1976. They have several homemade apple products for purchase, such as apple butter and apple cider. You can enjoy the winery along with the general store, two restaurants, a candy factory, and an ice cream parlor from 9:00 AM until 7:00 PM Sunday through Thursday and from 9:00 AM until 9:00 PM Friday through Saturday.

The last stop on the Rocky Top Wine trail is the Hillside Winery. For those of you who don’t like the hassle of corked wine, you’re in luck! The Hillside Winery caps their wines. They specialize in sweet wines made with local fruits. They use imported grapes for their dry wines. They are year round (except Christmas Day) from 9:00 AM until 8:00 PM.

Be sure to ask about tastings and tours at each stop. A lot of wineries offer tours free of charge along with a wine tasting afterwards. It’ll be a great way to see how much work goes into wine making and to find the perfect wine for you. Most wines are sold by the bottle or by the case.

If you are looking for a leisurely afternoon while enjoying the beauty of nature and you don’t want to haul yourself up a steep mountain, then tubing is the way to go! Maybe you would prefer to view the awesomeness of nature from a reclined position, only exerting your physical strength to splash a bit of cool water on yourself or maybe you are looking for an activity the whole family can enjoy. The answer to these desires is tubing!! Here are two companies that offer such delight:

The Smoky Mountain River Rat: The Smoky Mountain River Rat is located only fifteen miles from Pigeon Forge. With River Rat you can float the Little River on colorful sturdy tubes. The River Rat is owned by a husband and wife who still work there seven days a week with their two children. The benefit of having a mother as an owner/operator is her insight! Do not worry Mom; they have the tubes without a hole so that you do not have to worry about your little one falling out. The tubing rate is $13 for an individual. Hours of operation are 10:00 a.m., to 5:00p.m. To make reservations, call (865) 448-8888.

If you are concerned with how you will manage to dry off after your tubing experience, take their go-carts for a spin. Each river exit has outdoor showers and lockers. Their restrooms have real plumbing and changing rooms, and they are clean! They also added new shuttle vans to their fleet last year! On top of all of these wonderful things, they have SPECTACULAR deals!! TUBER’S SPECIAL: for $14 you can tube all day, plus get a BBQ sandwich, fries and a soft drink at the restraint!!
